Vindobona Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a skilled nursing community offering short-term rehab and long-term care services located in Braddock Heights, Maryland. To find out more about Vindobona click on their logo above to be redirected to their Facebook page.

Why Vindobona? The facility itself may not fall under our direct mission, but like St. Nicholas himself, our project saw a great need in it's residents and knew we had to help.

It all began 20 years ago when the children's choral group of Holy Family Catholic Community Church would visit and sing carols for the residents of the Vindobona Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Christmastime. During those visits, the Vindobona Activities Director shared how important visits like the choral group was for its residents. That although some of the residents had family local to the area, many residents do not receive visitors or even gifts at Christmastime. Knowing the impact many of it's residents had made over their lifetime to the local community and some even serving our country, we knew we had to help. It started that first Christmas with a couple bags full of donated black and white movies to expand the resident's viewing collection. Over the next few years our giving expanded into creating an ornament of wish list items for each resident to receive a gift. Those gifts then turned into Vindobona's ability to host a Christmas Party for the residents and students from St. Thomas More Academy distributing the donated gifts to each resident during that celebration.

Through the generosity of donors like you, help us ensure all of Vindobona's residents receive a gift to brighten their holiday season knowing they are still remembered and appreciated by clicking on the sign up link below to select an individual resident.

*Due to COVID-19 we request that gifts NOT be wrapped this year. However, you are welcome to include a donation of wrapping materials with your gift items.*

All donations must be dropped off to our St. Nick Delivers! Vindobona Coordinator, Veronica Kosch, at the following address during school hours no later than December 18, 2020.

WEEKEND FOOD BACKPACK MINISTRY

of the Middletown United Methodist Church (MUMC)

Ornament - Weekend Food Backpack Program

The Weekend Food Backpack Ministry's founder, Deacon Bill Bennett, began the ministry in 2011 as a means to provide weekend food to children of families who receive free and reduced-price meals at school during the week and that don’t have enough food to provide nutritious meals on the weekend. The ministry as a whole believes that adequate nutrition is crucial to healthy brain growth.

They currently serve between 75 - 90 children within the 7 schools of the Middletown area.  These schools include: Middletown Primary, Middletown Elementary, Middletown Middle, Middletown High, Myersville Elementary, Wolfsville Elementary, and Valley Elementary. The ministry provides students in need with one bag of food every Thursday to last them the weekend. The bags include nonperishable items such as: canned pasta, tuna, Asian noodles, peanut butter, crackers, applesauce, cereal, milk and juice. They have also expanded their backpack program to include weekends during the Summer. Students in need of assistance can contact their school's guidance counselor to enroll.

To read more about the Weekend Food Backpack (WFBP) Ministry click on the above photo to be redirected to their Frederick New Post article. WFBP relies on generous donations from supporters like you to fund their weekend food distributions.

To donate, please make your check payable to MUMC and write 'Weekend Food Backpack Program' on the memo line. A donation of $150.00 will sponsor a child for a year. Send your tax deductible donation to:

Middletown United Methodist Church (MUMC)

Attn: Weekend Food Backpack Ministry

7108 Fern Ct.

Middletown, MD 21769

Due to the loss of their large company sponsor for juice boxes in 2019, the Weekend Food Backpack Ministry has asked that we again place juice boxes as their highest need for donation collections this giving season. Each student receives 2 juice boxes with their weekend food bag and the ministry serves approximately 75-90 students per week. For nutritional purposes please donate items that contain real fruit juice.

*We highly recommend utilizing reusable bags to donate loose or smaller pantry items for transport/distribution purposes if not donating as a wrapped case or boxed containment.*
